Tuesday May 12: Today we begin discussing the story of Romeo and Juliet. We explored the motifs and themes that we will see throughout the story and broke down the prologue to better understand the introduction that Shakespeare gives readers. Links to audio versions of the story are below.
Monday May 11: Today we started discussing the life of William Shakespeare. We will be reading Romeo and Juliet as our final unit for LAC. Below is a PDF of Romeo and Juliet that helps break down the language Shakespeare used. April 20-May 8: Students should work on their Research Reports. Kmails were sent out with 2 PDF files to read through. One recording was sent out that demonstrates making a works cited page. Link to recording can be found below: Friday April 17: Today our focus was writing the body of the report. We learned that each body paragraph should have 5 sentences: 1 topic sentence, at least 3 supporting sentences, and a conclusion sentence. We also looked at in-text citations in the body paragraphs. Period 4 had to be cancelled due to BB issues. A recording of today's class is below. Thursday April 16: Today we started talking about drafting our report. We reviewed using in-text citations. The following video will help with understanding when and how to use the in-text citations. In-Text Citation Video Wednesday April 15: Today we discussed using an outline to organize the notes students will be collecting for their research report. We saw two different types of outlines, a scratch outline and a formal outline. Students will be using the note taking chart as their outline for this assignment. We also reviewed due dates for the research report assignments. Tuesday April 14: Today we began discussing the note taking process of the research report. Using our sources, we are gathering important information that we want to include in our report. A note taking chart was handed out, this will need to be handed in for the note taking assignment portion of the research report. It is worth 25 points. We also reviewed what we have learned so far during this unit about plagiarism, gathering sources, and taking notes. Monday April 13: Today we discussed using the internet for sources for the career research report. We discussed determining if a website is reliable or not. A "Dupe Detector" Chart was handed out in class to help students decide if a website is reliable or not. Students were also given their next assignment, the sources assignment, which is due April 17 for students in class and April 24 for students out for testing this week. Friday April 10: No School for Students Thursday April 9: Today we discussed using books as sources. Students will be required to use at least one book for their 3 sources for the Research Report. Books may be in digital form, but still need to be a printed book. Students can utilize their local library to gather sources and information. Wednesday April 8: Today we reviewed directions for the upcoming PSSA's. Tuesday April 7: Covering the Basics of the Research Report. Today we went into more detail about what is expected of you for this unit. You will need to write a 5 paragraph report on a career of your choice. You will submit 4 assignments for this report. Topic assignment, Sources assignment, Note taking chart assignment, and finally the actual report. All assignments will have a different place to submit in the Sapphire Dropbox. Monday April 6: Introduction to the Research Report Unit: You will be writing a Research Report on a Career of your choice. This report will be a formal piece of writing and will need to be at least 5 paragraphs long. Tuesday March 3: Today we reviewed the chapters of Frederick Douglas to prepare for the final assessment that will be taken on Thursday March 5 in Sapphire. Monday March 2: Today we finished up the Frederick Douglas narrative with Mrs. L. At this point students should have read the whole narrative. Tuesday November 25: Today was a reading and pathway catch up day. We focused on making sure everyone was prepared to discuss Chapter 7 after break. Homework:
Monday November 24: Today we discussed Chapter 6 of Animal Farm. We reviewed the original 7 commandments and identified how they were changing to suit the wants and needs of Napoleon. We compared how life is starting to change for the animals now that Napoleon is the only leader. Homework:
Friday November 21: Today we completed Animal Farm Quiz #2 on Chapters 3-5 in Sapphire. We also previewed vocabulary for Chapter 6 Homework:
Thursday November 20: Today we discussed Chapter 5 of Animal Farm. We focused on looking at the characters Squealer, Napoleon, and Snowball and determined their roles in Animal Farm and how each has a different way of persuading the animals. We also focused on the debate of the Windmill and saw how Napoleon was able to win after running Snowball off the farm. Homework:
Wednesday November 19: Today we discussed the topic of Transitions in writing. We completed the Transition pathway in Study Island for a blue ribbon. Homework:
Tuesday November 18: Today we discussed Chapter 4 of Animal Farm. We focused on the Battle of the Cowshed and how Snowball was able to lead the farm to victory. We also read a portion of an article about the October Revolution to make comparisons between the events in Animal Farm to the real life events during the Russian Revolution. Homework:
Monday November 17: Today we discussed Chapter 3 of Animal Farm. We focused on the changes the animals have been going through and how the pigs are becoming stronger leaders. We talked about the different leadership qualities of Napoleon and Snowball and how each is taking control. We made predictions of what will happen in Chapter 4 based on the vocabulary. Homework:
Friday November 14: Quiz #1 on Animal Farm in Sapphire. This quiz contains questions on the historical background information we learned prior to reading the novel as well as questions about Chapter 1 & Chapter 2 of the novel. Quiz is located in Sapphire. Homework:
Thursday November 13: Today we discussed Chapter 2 in Animal Farm. We reviewed the positive and negative aspects of animals running the farm, discussed the 7 commandments and how the pigs are slowly beginning to take over as leaders. We also highlighted textual evidence that shows how George Orwell wanted to paint the picture of a new life the day after the revolution. Wednesday November 12: Today we reviewed Introducing and Closing Topics for Study Island. Homework:
Tuesday November 11: No School. Work on Reading in Animal Farm Monday November 10: During today's class we discussed the characters in Animal Farm and the importance of keeping a character chart. We also reviewed Chapter 1 and talked about the importance of Major's speech to the other animals of the farm. We listened to the song "Beasts of England" and identified how it gave the animals hope of a brighter future where they would be in charge and how this hope led to the rebellion. We also identified the story as being a Political Satire and being written in third-person omniscient (all knowing narrator). Homework:
